A look back at some of our veterinary software highlights in 2020

Welcome

2020 was a challenging year. “We will make it work”, “It is what it is!”, and “We are not going to give up!”, were some of the positive phrases we heard from you. While it was not always business as usual for your practice, you persevered on and continued to provide the best care possible for your clients’ pets. It was also the same for us, and even a ‘special’ year like 2020 had its highlights.

Below is our IDEXX Veterinary Software annual review, including highlights from 2020 selected by people behind our products.

Feature enhancements – Animana

Vet Connect Plus Animana Order Screen

Enhanced Animana external laboratory integration

  • Automatic charge capture – Orders placed from Animana to the IDEXX Reference Laboratory via IDEXX VetConnect PLUS will automatically add relevant charges to an open invoice.
  • Better Notifications – The Animana toolbar now displays the number of unread in-house lab results available.
Incoming VOIP call in Animana

Incoming Voice over IP (VoIP) support in Animana

  • Automatic search on incoming calls – Incoming calls over VoIP trigger an automated search in Animana, which takes you straight to the correct client file.

Reworked Animana Client Portal

  • Major interface overhaul – For 2020, the portal is now easier to use and more mobile-friendly.
  • Full invoices available in the portal – Portal users can now see invoice information, and download as a PDF
  • More visit form fields – Portal users can now see more visit form fields, including ‘History’, ‘Findings’ and ‘Plan’.
  • A better logbook – The logbook view now matches the format and content in Animana.
  • Improved language handling – From login to patient details – view the portal in English or Dutch, and change the language using the handy switcher.
  • Self-service password reset – Portal users can now reset their own password – so no more calls to your practice!

Tighter Animana and SmartFlow integration

  • Product synchronisation – Take control of synchronising your products between Animana and SmartFlow
  • SmartFlow document synchronisation – Forms and images from SmartFlow will now automatically be added to the patient’s file in Animana.
  • SmartFlow document improvements – SmartFlow documents are clearly identified in the Animana patient file.

  • Animana: Images and PDF improvements in the patient file – Images and PDFs are now displayed more consistently in the patient file, and can be viewed quickly
  • Animana: Improved message notifications – The message icon in the Animana header bar now shows the number of unread messages

With an increased appetite from Animana users to know more about what we’re working on, in September we launched a “Coming Soon” series of articles showcasing what’s on the Animana roadmap.

IDEXX Online Bytes free webinar series

With veterinary congresses in 2020 cancelled, IDEXX launched the “Online Bytes” series of free webinars for veterinarians and veterinary nurses from all over Europe.

Software topics included: “The job you love made easier“, “Patient Workflow Software, is this for me?”, “How to use data to effectively build your client communications and practice marketing“, and “Patient WorkFlow Optimisation: Beyond the Basics”.

We also covered general topics across a broader spectrum of IDEXX products, including Liver Health, Emergency Care, and Anaemia.

How to use data to effectively build your client communications and practice marketing

We offer many reports, such as product group reporting (How are your product groups performing?), an automated reminder report, a waiting time report and much more!

Chris and Katie will show you how the automated reminder report can be used as a driver to increase footfall in your practice. These reports will also show you the seasonal trends in your practice for your product groups, such as the flea group and the tick group. Did you know you can use this data in your practice communications and marketing?

Learning and Support

Animana’s first self-paced learning course

In March we announced the availability of our first new self-paced learning course: “An introduction to Animana”.

This course was the first of several self-paced courses and focussed on providing the knowledge a new user needs to get up and running. Hence, it’s perfect if you have a new hire you’d like to get up to speed or if you want an overview of Animana. The modules in this course include lessons on the client and patient management, consultations, adding products, invoicing, and processing payments.
