Animana Release Highlights: Version 4.6

This version of Animana contains several bug fixes, security improvements, and behind the scenes enhancements. It also includes the following changes:

New DICOM Uploader

To support DICOM integration with OpenJDK Java(a free alternative to Oracle Java) Animana has developed a new DICOM uploader that is compatible with OpenJDK.

Scope

IDEXX Animana currently uses Java technology (provided by Oracle) to run two key applications required for diagnostic integration with your X-ray equipment (DICOM) and In-House blood Analyzers (Both IDEXX and other providers).

Recently, Oracle has made some changes by making their Java technology a paid-for service if you want to get regular (security) updates as a business user of the software.

Regular security updates are critical in keeping your computer safe from the risk of hackers and malware.

As we use Java technology to run diagnostic integration in your practice, we now support a free of charge open-source alternative called OpenJDK.

For information about how this applies to you, please refer to the FAQs below.

FAQ

I use the Animana DICOM Uploader to upload X-rays into Animana, what do I have to do?

You can continue using Oracle Java if you want, however DICOM uploading will not work with future versions of Java (versions 8 and above).

NOTE: The next time you download the DICOM uploader from Animana, it will be a new type of file that you need to make a shortcut for in your startup folder. You can find full instructions here.

I use the IDEXX Animana web-agent to upload in-house blood diagnostics into Animana (e.g. from IDEXX Analysers), do I need to do anything?

You can continue using Oracle Java. However, the web-agent will not work with future versions of Java (versions 8 and above).

However, you can move over to use OpenJDK. The Animana web-agent is compatible with OpenJDK.

I would like to move over to OpenJDK and no longer use Oracle Java

Please see KB article here.

Can I have Oracle Java and OpenJDK installed on the same computer?

No, you cannot have both versions of Java installed on your machine at the same time.
