The value of user research in the veterinary field

“Even the most well thought out designs are assumptions until they are tested by real users.”
– UX Without User Research Is Not UX, Hoa Loranger

In the fast-paced world of veterinary care, efficiency, accuracy, and above all, user satisfaction are crucial. With consultations that sometimes only last 10 minutes, accuracy is critical to prevent mistakes that can have health repercussions for the patients. As a veterinarian, practice manager, receptionist, or vet nurse, your practice management system is the backbone of your daily operations, and your satisfaction is our priority.

But how can we ensure that Animana meets your needs and enhances your workflow? The answer lies in user research, an essential aspect of the works of our User Experience designers.

What is User Research?

User research is a crucial part of making software products. It informs the decisions on how and what to make, shaping the product and how the users interact with it.

“User research is the methodic study of target users—including their needs and pain points—so designers have the sharpest possible insights to make the best designs.”
– What Is User Research? — Updated 2024, The Interaction Design Foundation

User research helps us understand users’ behaviours, needs, and motivations. At IDEXX, we employ various techniques, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, journaling, and observation. This approach eliminates guesswork about what is best for our users. Involving various Animana users in our process ensures that we take into account different needs, wants, and challenges, often called “pain points.”

Our Animana research community

“All the activities that I have encountered over these months of participating have all been exciting!… I would like you guys to know that it has been nothing but a pleasure participating in these activities and all the moderators have been great!”
-Tiffany V

Established in 2024, our research community plays a vital role in the future of Animana. By participating in user research activities such as surveys, interviews, and usability tests, we gain the insights needed to enhance Animana while ensuring our users remain at the centre of our improvements. Your feedback helps us identify your challenges, motivating us to create better solutions.

Join us in shaping the future of veterinary practice management systems – your insights are the key to unlocking a better, more efficient, and more enjoyable work experience.
